Urban Wear: Choose Your New Era Cap Accessories

Urban style has had that laidback appeal since it appeared on the fashion scene, and it was this exact property that helped maintain it popular to this day. Come what may in terms of fashion trends, the comfort of urban, plus the ease of styling, make it always relevant.

Not surprisingly, even high-end brands started incorporating urban wear pieces in their collections, and before we knew it, it moved from the streets, and went straight to the runways. The messy year we’ve had in 2020, marked by the COVID-19 pandemic, made the style even more sought after than before because of these very properties. We could see everyone wearing it, all the time, including celebrities.

And, wanna hear the best thing about it? You can spice up your existing wardrobe with certain urban pieces without going fully urban, starting with the accessories. Now, speaking of iconic choices, that remain trendy time and time again, then I have to talk about the New Era baseball caps. Though they’re famous for specialising in caps, one of their most popular designs of all times has got to be that of the timeless 5950 hats.

Mind you though, they aren’t to be confused with the 950 caps, and I’m going to cover below why that is. Whether you want to find this classic with your favourite National Basketball Association team logo, your Major or Minor League Baseball teams, they’ve got it all; including caps with the logos of association football clubs and college sports. Another, more recent design that’s reached popularity is the New Era 940 cap.

What’s to Know of the 59Fifty Caps?

Simply said, the iconic 5950 are fitted caps. What this means is there’s no need for adjustments before you wear them, much like what you get from custom-made items. The reason behind this is the way they are constructed: with a reinforced panel at the front, and added materials for rigidness, you get the hats that are safe from bending and perfect for easy wear.

Still, what this means is that you’d have to be very careful when making your purchase – be sure to look into the twelve sizes and measure up to be certain what you buy is meant for you. With a stylish back that closes off for a nice fit, and the base colour adding a fancy touch to the whole model, they make ideal additions to your outfits.

Depending on how you like to wear them, or how they fit you, you can choose from both the modern low and traditional high profiles. Available for the wider clientele since 1978, even for infants, toddlers and older kids, the 5950 hats have in fact been in production as early as 1954. The inspiration behind their name was the fabric used for the creation of the design.

What’s to Know of the 9Fifty Caps?

If you’re up for something more casual than the classic 59Fifty, then you’ve got what you’re looking for in the 9Fifty design. With a notable snap back, it’s a modern take on the iconic New Era models.

With some designs, instead of a plastic snap back, there is a cloth strapback which too has a trendy effect. Sometimes, this snap closure can be in a colour different from the rest of the hat, and there are also models where they come in the same, so the choice is up to you depending on whether you want an extra pop of colour.

Much like the authentic 5950 fitted hats, these hats feature a reinforced front panel and a structured body, as well as a tall full crown profile. The difference is that they offer more head flexibility, thanks to the snap back. Still, this flexibility isn’t to say one size fits all, as there are various sizes available.

What’s to Know of the 9Forty Caps?

Now these are something even more modern than the 9Fifty because they’re a mixture of this style, plus 39Thirty. Firm like the 5950 hats, with a fit like that of the 39Thirty, and the typical low profile with pre-curved visor, with a range of closures similar to the 9Fifty, it’s important to note it’s still got something unique – the one size.

If you’ve got head size smaller or bigger than sizes 7 and 7 ¾ respectively, then bad news for you is that this style won’t be ideal for you in which case you’d be better off with either the 59Fifty or the 9Fifty. Anyone with other sizes should find it quite comfortable.

Same as the other, you’ve got a wide range of options to choose from when it comes to colours and embellishments, with a variety of logos. One of the reasons for confusion with this style is that some people tend to mix it with the 9Twenty. This is a style that differs in the sense that it’s soft with a relaxed fit.
